The Dais

Silas Koh, 4K

Silas is currently studying Literature in English and History. Due to his interest in Literature and other humanities, he is aspiring to receive a Humanities scholarship while studying in Victoria Junior College. Other than the Model League of Nations that Silas participates in during school IP Humanities curriculum, he has also won the Best Delegate award in the Human Rights Council in VSMUN 2015, and has participated in the recent YNCAP MUN 2016 as the delegate of Myanmar (SPECPOL). He is looking forward to chairing his first committee during VSMUN 2016 and is eager to participate in any of the upcoming MUNs.

Being a huge "Koreaboo" since 2011, Silas started learning Korean in 2014. He completed his Basic Korean course in 2015, and now learns Korean on his own through online websites and by watching Korean dramas. In his free time, he writes mini drama reviews and reflections that he keeps for himself. Silas also follows the Korean music scene, being a huge fan of well-known girl group Apink. The rest of Silas' time is occupied with football, as he plays football for the school team and watches almost all of Manchester United's games.

Linus Lim, 4K

Linus is a Year 4 student in Victoria School. He currently holds numerous leadership positions in Victoria School, one of which being the monitor of his class. He has previously attended 3 MUNs, namely VSMUN and UNASMUN in the year 2015, and YNCAPMUN earlier this year.

From the day he got his first taste of MUN at VSMUN, Linus has grown to enjoy the academic rigour as well as the heated debate that never fails to ensue during each MUN. He enjoys the diplomatic discourse and quick wit that accompanys every speech made during a MUN conference. This affection for Model United Nations has only grown stronger as he participated in UNASMUN as part of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), representing Thailand as well as in YNCAPMUN, where he was part of the High Level Political Forum (HLPF) as the delegate of Bahrain. At UNASMUN, Linus has dealt with issues pertaining to the access to safe drinking water and sanitation as well as world poverty, and at YNCAPMUN, Linus gained experience in debate regarding Food Security and The Universal Access to Energy.

In his free time, Linus enjoys playing many sports such as soccer and basketball. Linus can also be seen indulging in articles pertaining to current affairs, and also likes to pass the time by scrolling through news websites. He can also be seen at the gym where he spends his time keeping fit and working out.

Like many delegates in VSMUN who may be new to Model United Nations Conferences, this will also be Linus' first time as a chair for a MUN Conference. Linus looks forward to a fruitful and engaging debate from all delegates in SPECPOL which will give rise to pragmatic and effective solutions, as well as would like to urge all delegates to take this opportunity to make new friends and be acquainted with unfamiliar faces. Linus hopes that the delegates' first experience of MUN in VSMUN would be an enjoyable one which would spark an interest in future MUN conferences for all delegates.

Sebastian Khoo, 4G

Sebastian is a decently experienced MUN delegate with experiences reaching to the recent Yale-NUS College Asian Pacific MUN, a MUN conference with over 900 international delegates pit together in their own committees. His other MUN experiences include Yale Model ASEAN, the previous Editions of VSMUN, and other small Model UN conferences all around. He is especially well-versed in Crisis Committees. With a fair experience in the Dais, he hopes that those in his committee can enjoy their Model UN conference experiences.
While not involved in Model UN conferecnes, he plays ultimate Frisbee outside of school and is the Unit Seargant Major of the NCC Sea Unit in Victoria School. He also takes the Triple Science combination in school.  Sebastian believes in everyone that if they are willing to carefully plan out their routes, they are able to enrich themselves in many educational and fulfilling experiences.

Damian Lee, 4K

Damian is an enthusiast in History, Literature and Modern Affairs. This has led to him pursuing his literary passions by participating in global debate competitions such as World Scholars Cup, where he has pitted against the best of the best from many different international schools worldwide. Even though his experience in MUN may not be the most eloquent, having only participated in VS MUN last year, he has thoroughly enjoyed himself and performed excellently. He finds the moments of joy and laughter, amidst the intense and competitive debates a beautiful thing, allowing many fellow students to showcase their general knowledge and debating proficiencies.

Even aside from his academic standpoint, Damian also exhibits interests in other areas such as casual gaming as well as reading. He is a fan of many MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) Games, being an avid player of games such as Dota 1,League of Legends, Dota 2, and even unorthodox games like Smite. He also enjoys catching up with current affairs through online articles, newspapers and even occasionally picking up a Times magazine or any other popular magazines.

When it comes to speeches to the respective councils in our VS MUN, Damian is always looking out for emotional expression, vibrant and spirited debates. Since he finds that overly technical and factual speeches might be able to raise some eyebrows, but what impresses and wins the hearts of people, are speeches that contain greater meaning, that embody purpose, and simply exudes conviction.  Damian looks forward to a fruitful MUN 2016.

Ervin Lim, 4H

Ervin is currently a Year 4 student and the captain of the shooting team. In the course of his Model United Nations experience, he has attended the annual VSMUN in 2014 and 2015 as a delegate of the Human Rights Council and the World Health Organisation respectively. He has also attended the 2016 Yale-NUS Colege Asia Pacific MUN held at Yale-NUS as a delegate of the High Level Political Forum council. While attending VSMUN 2015, he bagged the Honorable Mention award.

In his free time, Ervin would normally read up on news reports and analysis of football matches. Being a supporter of the football team Real Madrid C.F., his favorite player is the team’s captain, Sergio Ramos. He will also spend his free time watching Korean variety shows, such as Running Man and Infinite Challenge.

In speeches before the committee, he values debates over dialogue. Ervin envisions the delegates of the Human Rights Council to make firm headway towards diplomatic discussions on the ever-present question of torture and cruel, and unusual punishments.

Riqi Hanzrudyn, 4D

Riqi Hanzrudyn currently is an Express student in Victoria School. While he aims to study film, he would also like to further his education in Victoria JC. An experienced Model UN Delegate with St. Joseph's Institution MUN, Yale-NUS Model ASEAN, and VSMUN under his belt in 2015 alone, Riqi shows no interests in slowing down. As this is his first time as a Chair, he is more than excited to help as a member of the Dais to his fellow Victorians in DISEC.

As a big fan of Literature and Film, Riqi also possesses good trivia on many books, movies and other seemingly useless information. Ranking Tarantino as his favourite director and Murakami as his favourite author, Riqi wishes to follow in their footsteps and write short stories and short films. Riqi looks forward to the delegates showing their quick wit, respect and debating skills, and hopes for a fun, enthusiastic and strong council.

Brian Chow, 4G

Brian has had experience with MUN in previous years, having participated in VSMUN and MUNs out of school. He has had the privilege to help out at Yale-NUS College Asia-Pacific MUN 2015, the largest MUN held in Singapore, and has seen first-hand a high-level, large scale professional MUN conference. He has observed and met both local and foreign avid MUN delegates who have had a wealth of experience and enjoyed the whole process of MUN, including how delegates would go from looking for their own benefits for their countries to forming blocs and arguing their cases.

Brian has also participated in previous VSMUN Editions and has experience writing position papers which served him well in the IP Humanities Syllabus and he has had fair chairing experience. Having been in historical MUN conferences has also allowed him to take on a whole new perspective of people from other countries by imagining what delegates from another country and historical time frame would do in various situation. He looks forward to chairing for VSMUN and meeting and working with new faces.
